Tampere is Finland’s third city and the biggest inshore town in the Nordic countries. Tampere was founded in 1779 on the bank of Lake Näsijärvi. Tampere lies some 180 kilometres north of Helsinki and its current population is approximately 200,000.

There are frequent rail, bus and flight connections between Helsinki and Tampere. Flights between Helsinki and Tampere take about 35 minutes. Trains take about 90 minutes and run every hour.

Finnair operates flights between Tampere and Helsinki and Blue1/SAS between Tampere and Stockholm and between Tampere and Copenhagen. Ryanair has inexpensive flights from several European countries to and out of Tampere.

Tampere Hall is a ten-minute walk from the Tampere railway station. The building, designed as a conference centre, was inaugurated in 1990. Buses number 13 and 22 stop nearby.
