Lappeenranta
The town of Lappeenranta, built on the bank of Lake Saimaa, is the administrative centre of the South Karelia region in south-eastern Finland, 220 kilometres east of Helsinki. Lappeenranta was established in 1649 and its current population is some 60,000.
There are frequent rail, bus and flight connections between Helsinki and Lappeenranta. Trains take about three hours and run every three hours. There are several daily flights between Helsinki and Lappeenranta and the journey takes about 40 minutes. The Lappeenranta route is operated by Finncomm Airlines.
