Jyväskylä is a busy university town in central Finland. It lies 270 kilometres north of Helsinki, at the northern end of Lake Päijänne. Jyväskylä was founded in 1837 and its current population is about 83,000.
There are frequent rail, bus and flight connections between Helsinki and Jyväskylä. Trains take about three hours and run every two hours. There are several daily flights between Helsinki and Jyväskylä and the journey takes about 50 minutes. Finnair, Finncomm Airlines and Aero Airlines operate at Jyväskylä Airport.
