Media accreditation
This section provides information on accreditation for the meetings to be held in Finland during the EU Presidency.
Accreditation for European Council meetings
Accreditation for European Council meetings is necessary and takes place via the website of the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union as of six weeks before a meeting.
Accreditation for meetings in Finland
A request for accreditation should be submitted in good time before the meeting. On-line accreditation requests must be submitted a week prior to the meeting in question. Accreditation for the ASEM 6 Summit, Informal meeting of Heads of State or Government and the EUROMED meeting must take place two weeks prior to the meetings.
Accreditation at a meeting venue is possible but only under special circumstances and it cannot be guaranteed.
Submitting a request for accreditation
The accreditation form can be activated by clicking on the ”accreditation” sign at the bottom of this page. Fill in your personal details and select the events for which you wish to be accredited.
In a few days, you will receive an e-mail message confirming or rejecting your request for accreditation. With the e-mail message confirming the receipt of your accreditation request, you will also receive a personal access key. You can edit and view your personal data by using the key.
Required information and annexes
You are required to provide the following information: personal details; the number, expiry date and place of issue of your passport or official identity card; contact details of the organisation that you represent; press card information or a letter of authorisation from your editor (in PDF format). All fields are obligatory.
Finnish authorities will verify the authenticity of the information provided. In addition to accreditation for meetings, Finnish citizens must give consent for a concise security clearance to be carried out. All information will remain confidential.
Badges
Each event will have its own badges. Badges will be available at an accreditation desk near the Media Centre. To receive your badge, you must present a valid press card or a letter from your editor and an official identity card (a passport or other official document with a photograph).
You will not be able to enter the Media Centre or attend any media event without a valid badge. The badge must be worn at all times and, in addition, you must be prepared to present your identity card on request. Should you lose your badge, please notify the accreditation desk immediately.
Accreditation at a meeting venue
Accreditation at a meeting venue is possible only under special circumstances and cannot be guaranteed. Accreditation at a meeting venue is likely to be a time-consuming process.
To obtain accreditation at a meeting venue, you must present a valid press card or a letter from your editor and an official identity card (a passport or other official document with a photograph).
Accreditation for formal Council meetings in Brussels and Luxembourg
Separate accreditation is not necessary. Journalists need to present a valid press card and an identity card or passport to attend media events in the margins of formal Council meetings.
